An ice maker is the first part of a refrigerator to notice hard water, and Garden City's water is hard. Every fill pushes a few ounces through a tiny valve port and leaves a trace of mineral behind. Too little water per fill from a scaled valve or a saturated filter, or a freezer running slightly warm so cubes harvest early. We catch a fill in a cup against the spec, read the valve coil and check freezer temperature before naming a part.
A filter long past its date, a bin that has taken on freezer odors, or standing water in a rarely used line. We replace the filter if you want it, flush the line and clean the bin. Some Garden City ice maker visits need no mechanical part, and we say so.
A door seal on the ice compartment letting in warm air, a mold heater sticking cubes together, or a dispenser motor that has weakened. We check the seal, the mold temperature and the auger drive before we quote anything. Warm air in the bin is the common thread.

We check the fill tube for ice, the mold for scale, the arm for free travel. Sometimes, and we will say so if it is. A saturated filter can cut the fill enough to shrink cubes. But if the valve is scaled, a new filter buys a few weeks at most. We measure the fill with and without the filter bypassed when the design allows, and write down which part is the restriction.
