I-84 east to the Connector carries us from the shop into Downtown, off at Myrtle or Front among the condos and lofts of BoDo and the Linen District, and from there 13th St and 15th St climb into the North End grid, where the streets count up from 8th St toward Hyde Park and the big maples along Harrison Blvd. Warm Springs Ave runs out from the far side of Downtown toward the East End and the trailheads under Table Rock. It is one stretch of freeway and then city streets, and the trucks are in this part of town every working day because St. Luke’s downtown campus, the Capitol offices and the shift schedules around them keep the calls coming at odd hours. Early and late windows are normal here, Monday to Saturday, and no address in ZIP 83702 carries a distance fee.
These are the oldest houses in the valley: 1900s to 1940s bungalows and Craftsman homes with the washer and dryer in a low basement, a dryer vent that runs to a window well, and a kitchen that has been remodeled around a chimney that no longer serves anything. Wiring and gas lines have been updated piecemeal, so a range on a circuit that was never meant for it is common. Along Harrison Blvd and Warm Springs Ave the kitchens are a different story, with Sub-Zero, Wolf, Thermador and Miele built-ins that need careful hands. A ten-year-old front-loader in a bungalow two blocks from the Hyde Park shops, filling for ages and then quitting with a water-supply code. Can you get a washer out of a North End basement without wrecking the stairs?
Yes. Basement laundry is the norm in the North End and we are used to narrow stairs, low headroom and old plaster. Most repairs happen where the machine sits, so it rarely needs to leave the room. When a unit has to be pulled from a tight closet or under a low ceiling, we use sliders and take our time. Your walls and treads are part of the job.
Do you work on the high-end built-ins along Harrison Blvd and Warm Springs Ave?

Not for us. Stacked pairs are common in the condos around BoDo and the Linen District, and the usual complaints are a dryer that runs cold because the long vent is clogged and a washer door lock that will not release. We diagnose with the unit in place when we can, and the $99 diagnostic is inside the repair price you approve.
My North End house has old wiring. Can that cause an appliance problem?
It can, and we check for it. A range or dryer on a circuit with a loose neutral, an undersized breaker or a worn receptacle will show odd symptoms that look like a machine fault. We meter the supply before we blame the appliance. If the trouble is in the house wiring rather than the machine, we tell you so and you have paid $99, not a repair you did not need.
