The split-level off Ustick where the dryer runs two cycles a load. The garage fridge on Cole Rd that went warm in July. The dishwasher near Boise Towne Square with film on every glass.
West Boise is the grid between the Connector and the Meridian line, and we work it from the shop at that line by heading east on Overland Rd or Franklin and turning north at Cloverdale, Five Mile or Cole. Boise Towne Square anchors the middle of it, and the neighborhoods around it, off Milwaukee, along Maple Grove, behind the strip on Overland’s west end, are where a lot of our regular calls come from. It is one of our busiest areas because it is dense with the kind of houses that have three or four appliances all reaching the same age at once, and because a call from Five Mile fits neatly between one on Cole and one on Cloverdale.
Most of West Boise went up between the early 1970s and the late 1990s: single-story ranches and split-levels with the laundry pair in the garage or a hall closet against the garage wall. That puts the dryer vent on a long crawl through the attic or along the ceiling to a roof jack or a soffit, and a run like that fills with lint and valley dust. The water is Boise city water, hard, so inlet screens, dishwasher elements and ice-maker valves scale over time. Garage refrigerators and chest freezers carry the weather, quitting in a hot August or stalling in a cold January. Original builder-grade ranges from the 1990s are now aging out, one element or igniter at a time.
| Appliance | What we see most here |
|---|---|
| Refrigerators | Side-by-sides in Cole Rd garages that go warm in the August heat, condensers choked with dust; evaporator fans failing on 1990s Kenmores off Five Mile. |
| Dryers | The classic West Boise call. Split-level, garage laundry, a vent through the attic to a roof jack, no heat because the thermal fuse opened behind a plugged run. |
| Washers | Top-loaders off Ustick with a lid lock the board no longer trusts; front-loaders near Cloverdale filling slowly through scaled inlet screens. |
| Dishwashers | Cloudy glasses and gritty plates around Boise Towne Square; a heating element under a jacket of scale; a drain hose looped wrong behind the cabinet. |
| Ranges & ovens | 1990s GE and Whirlpool electric ranges losing a bake element or a coil terminal; glass-tops off Fairview with a limiter switch that opened. |
| Ice makers | Silent modules, small cubes and a fill tube frozen solid in Frigidaire and Whirlpool side-by-sides, the fill valve throttled by city-water scale. |
Split-level off Five Mile Rd, dryer in the garage, exhaust snaking up through the attic to a roof jack. Towels take two cycles and the top of the machine is hot. Airflow at the roof is barely a breath. The fuse held, but the vent is packed tight. We clear the run and prove the flow before we leave.
A garage side-by-side off Cole Rd goes warm in the second week of a heat wave. Condenser coils behind the kick plate wear a felt of dust, the fan is straining, and the compressor is hot enough to sizzle. We clean the coils and meter the amps, and the box comes back down by evening.
A top-load Maytag in a 1980s ranch near Ustick and Cloverdale stops at the spin and blinks a lid code. The lock switch reads open on the meter no matter how the lid sits. We replace the lock assembly from the truck and run a spin cycle to the end, with the customer watching the drum come up to speed.
A rental near Boise Towne Square, tenant home, owner texting from work. Water in the bottom, film on everything. The drain pump is clogged with a shard of glass and the heating element reads open, wearing scale like a crust. Owner approves the written number by text; tenant gets working dishes that afternoon.

If your West Boise dryer runs but the clothes stay damp, or it heats for a while and then goes cold, start with the vent. Garage laundry in the ranches off Five Mile, Cole and Ustick means a long run through the attic, and that run is where the trouble lives. We check airflow at the exit, meter the fuse, igniter or element, and quote in writing. $99 for the diagnosis, inside the repair if you approve, the whole bill if you do not.
| What you notice | What it usually is | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| Two cycles for one load | Airflow starved by an attic vent run full of lint and dust | Measure flow at the roof jack or soffit, clear the run, replace crushed flex |
| Heats, then goes cold mid-cycle | Cycling thermostat or high-limit opening from restricted exhaust | Meter both thermostats, replace, correct the airflow so they stop tripping |
| Drum will not turn, motor hums | Broken belt or a seized idler pulley, sometimes a motor start switch | Replace belt and idler, test the motor under load, spin-check the drum |
We clear the section behind the machine and check flow at the exit as part of any no-heat repair, and we will tell you plainly whether the rest of the attic run is restricted. A full-length cleaning of a long attic vent is sometimes a separate job, and we say so before you decide.

West Boise washers are mostly 1990s and 2000s top-loaders in garage laundries, with a growing share of front-loaders in the remodeled ranches near Boise Towne Square. Slow fills from scaled inlet screens, a lid lock the board rejects, a pump that hums and does not drain, a spin that shakes the garage. We meter the valve, the lock and the pump, and write a single price. The $99 diagnostic is included in the repair you approve.
| What you notice | What it usually is | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| Stops before the spin, lid light blinks | Lid lock or switch failed, or the board is not reading it | Meter the lock, replace the assembly, run to the end of a spin |
| Slow fill, supply code on the display | Inlet screens and valve throttled by hard city water | Clean screens, replace the valve, time the fill and check pressure |
| Walks across the garage on spin | Worn suspension rods or a shock, or a load the balance ring cannot manage | Replace suspension parts, level the machine, spin-test with a real load |
A little. Cold water in an unheated garage makes detergent dissolve poorly and can stiffen old hoses, and the machine works harder to reach warm-wash temperatures. It does not cause failures on its own, but it shows up an inlet valve that is already sticking. We meter the valve and tell you where it stands.

Warm-fridge calls in West Boise cluster around the garage. The second refrigerator or chest freezer off Cole Rd or Cloverdale takes the full August heat with dust-packed coils, and then meets a January inversion that fools its thermostat into shutting off. Kitchen units fail on defrost heaters, evaporator fans and start relays. A warm refrigerator gets a same-day window when we can manage it. Meter first, then one written price with $99 already inside it.
| What you notice | What it usually is | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| Warm in July, compressor running constantly | Condenser coils packed with dust, fan weak, heat not leaving the box | Clean the condenser, meter the fan and compressor amps, verify the temperature drop |
| Frost building on the back wall of the freezer | Defrost heater, defrost thermostat or the control that runs them | Meter the defrost circuit, replace the failed piece, clear the ice from the evaporator |
| Runs fine, but water under the crisper drawers | Defrost drain iced or clogged, water backing up into the cabinet | Clear and warm the drain, check the drain pan, verify the melt water flows out |
Below about forty degrees in the garage, the thermostat inside reads the cabinet as cold enough and never calls for the compressor. The food inside slowly rises toward garage temperature. Some models take a heater kit; otherwise the freezer needs a heated space in winter. We meter the thermostat before deciding which.

The electric ranges that came with 1990s West Boise houses are reaching the end of their elements, and the calls sound alike: a coil burner that will not heat, an oven that bakes uneven, a glass-top with one dead zone. Gas ranges in the remodeled kitchens near Fairview click without lighting after a boil-over. We meter the elements, igniters and sensors, name the part, and write one number. The $99 is inside it if you go ahead.
| What you notice | What it usually is | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| One coil burner dead, the rest fine | Failed coil or a burned receptacle under it | Meter the coil and receptacle, replace both if the terminal is scorched |
| Oven bakes uneven, browns the back | Bake element open or a temperature sensor drifting | Meter the element and sensor, replace, probe-check at two temperatures |
| Gas burner clicks and clicks | Spark module wet from a spill or a cracked igniter electrode | Dry and test the module, replace the igniter, check every burner lights |
Often yes. Coil ranges from that era are simple machines, and elements, receptacles and sensors are parts we carry on the truck. Whether the repair makes sense is your decision, and it is an easy one to make with the failed part named and one written number in your hand. The $99 diagnostic covers finding it.

Dishwashers in West Boise fight hard city water in kitchens that were built for a smaller machine. Cloudy glasses, a cycle that ends with water in the sump, a latch that will not register, a door that leaks at the corner. Scale on the element and spray arm cuts cleaning; a drain hose looped wrong behind the cabinet keeps water in the tub. We meter the element and pump, and hand you one written price with $99 already inside.
| What you notice | What it usually is | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| Film on glasses, gritty plates | Scaled element and spray arm, or a softener that ran dry upstream | Descale or replace the element, clear the arm, run a test load |
| Water standing after the cycle | Drain pump clogged, check valve stuck, or a hose without a high loop | Clear the pump, replace the valve, re-route the hose and drain-test |
| Leaks at the bottom corner of the door | Worn door gasket or a spray arm hitting the lower rack | Replace the gasket, check rack and arm clearance, run a wash on a dry floor |
Usually. Elements, pumps, latches and gaskets for those machines are common, and many are on the truck. If a board or a specific part has to be ordered, we come back to fit it with no second trip fee. You see one written number either way before we start.

The ice maker in a West Boise side-by-side quits quietly. First the cubes shrink and turn cloudy, then a tray freezes solid, then nothing. Hard city water scales the fill valve until it barely opens, a fill tube ices shut, or the module simply wears out after years of harvests. We meter the valve and module, thaw and inspect the fill path, and write one price. $99 for the diagnosis, inside the repair if you say yes.
| What you notice | What it usually is | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| No ice for days, no noise from the module | Module failed, or the fill valve coil is open | Meter both, replace, watch a complete cycle from fill to harvest |
| Small, cloudy, hollow cubes | Fill valve narrowed by scale so the tray never fills | Replace the valve, check house pressure, measure the fill |
| Ice tray frozen into one block | Fill tube frozen and dripping, or a valve leaking past its seat | Thaw the tube, replace the leaking valve, confirm a clean fill |
The fill valve has a tiny opening, and Boise city water leaves minerals in it every time it opens. A refrigerator compressor never sees the water; the ice maker does. Replacing the valve restores full cubes. A softener ahead of the fridge and a fresh filter slow the return of scale.

Housing. The split-levels and ranches off Five Mile, Cole and Ustick put the dryer in the garage and send the vent through the attic to the roof. Long, warm, horizontal duct collects lint and dust, airflow drops, the dryer overheats, and the thermal fuse opens to protect it. Replacing the fuse fixes the symptom; clearing the vent fixes the cause. We do both.
It is. Boise city water is hard everywhere on the west side, and a dishwasher heats it, which drops the minerals out onto the element and spray arm. Over a few years that means cloudy glasses and weaker cleaning. A working softener slows it down. We descale or replace what the meter says has failed and tell you where the water stands.
Yes, and it is a normal day for us. The tenant lets us in, we diagnose with the meter and text the owner a plain description of the failed part and one written number. Owner approves by text, we repair from the truck, and the written invoice and warranty go to the owner. The tenant just gets a working machine.
The diagnosis, done with a meter and not a guess. We tell you the failed part in plain words and write one number for the repair. Approve it and the $99 is part of that number. Turn it down and $99 is the full bill. All pricing comes after the diagnostic, in writing, and every repair carries a written warranty.
