Appliance repair in Meridian, subdivision by subdivision

Meridian grew faster than any city in Idaho, and the appliances that went in with the houses are now coming due one street at a time.

Working Meridian

Meridian is our own town: the shop sits on Overland Rd just west of Eagle Rd, in the Movado neighborhood at the southeast corner of the city, so every Meridian call starts inside the city limits. Overland, Victory and Amity carry us west to Ten Mile Crossing, Tuscany, Bear Creek and the neighborhoods stacked along Ten Mile Rd, while Eagle Rd and Locust Grove run straight north past The Village at Meridian to Ustick Rd and Fairview Ave, Bridgetower, and on to Chinden Blvd along the north side of town past Paramount and the Lochsa Falls streets. Eagle Rd is the spine we drive a dozen times a day. Old Town Meridian around Main St and the St. Luke’s campus off Eagle Rd anchor the middle. We schedule Meridian in clusters so trucks stay within a few miles of the shop for hours at a time, Monday to Saturday, with no distance surcharge from Linder Rd to Locust Grove.

Nearly everything here is 2000s and 2020s construction, and it went up in phases: a builder finished Paramount, then Bridgetower, then the Ten Mile streets, and installed the same appliance package in every kitchen along the way. Now those packages are wearing out on the same clock. Meridian water comes from city wells and it is very hard, harder than Boise’s, which is why softeners are everywhere and why a softener out of salt announces itself in the dishwasher within weeks. Scale eats ice maker fill valves, coats dishwasher heaters and shortens the life of washer inlet valves. Farm dust off the fields still being built on packs dryer vents, and garage refrigerators face both the January inversion and a hundred-degree August.

What Meridian calls about

ApplianceWhat we see most here
RefrigeratorsBuilder-package French-door units with a dead evaporator fan or defrost heater around year six to nine; ice rooms that warm up; garage refrigerators in Paramount and Tuscany that stop running when the garage drops below forty.
DryersUpstairs laundry rooms with long vents that clog with lint and field dust; open thermal fuses; heating elements with a broken coil; gas dryers in Bridgetower with a failing igniter or coil set.
WashersInlet valves and screens plated with very hard water scale; drain pumps stopped by grit and small items; door locks stuck shut; front-load bearings roaring after years of hard-water washing.
DishwashersHeaters, spray arms and filters scaled solid, usually when a softener ran dry; wash motors and pump seals wearing out on builder models; door latches that stop registering; drain hoses without a high loop.
Ranges & ovensGlass-top ranges with a failed burner or infinite switch; gas igniters too weak to open the valve; ovens holding temperature poorly because the sensor drifted; convection fans grinding in double ovens.
Ice makersFill valves narrowed by scale so trays get a trickle; frozen fill tubes; small, cloudy, hollow cubes; door-mounted ice modules that stopped harvesting.
Dishwasher

Dishwasher · Paramount

A dishwasher in a 2007 two-story in Paramount, dishes coming out gritty and the glasses cloudy. The garage softener had run out of salt in May, unnoticed until August. The heating element was crusted white and measured weak, the spray arm holes half plugged, the filter stiff with scale. Element replaced, arms and filter cleared, softener refilled.

Fridge

Fridge · Lochsa Falls

A French-door refrigerator in Lochsa Falls, the same model as most of the block, fridge side warming while the freezer stayed cold. The evaporator fan had quit behind a sheet of frost and the defrost heater tested open. Both were on the truck because this failure repeats on this model across Meridian. Two hours, one written number, one visit.

Dryer

Dryer · Bridgetower

An upstairs gas dryer in Bridgetower, running hot briefly, then cool, loads taking two cycles. The vent to the roof was packed with lint and dust off the fields west of Ten Mile, and the coil set on the gas valve had given up. Coils from the truck, vent cleared end to end, a full load run warm.

Washer

Washer · Tuscany

A front-loader in Tuscany stopping with a water-supply code and taking forever to fill. Both inlet screens were sealed with scale you could scrape with a fingernail and the cold valve coil was open. We cleaned the screens, replaced the valve, checked the hoses for kinks, and the fill time dropped back to normal.

Meridian questions

Is Meridian a long way from your shop for a repair?

No. The shop is in Meridian, on Overland Rd just west of Eagle Rd, and we cluster Meridian calls so a truck spends a whole morning or afternoon within a few miles of the door. There is no distance surcharge anywhere in Meridian, from Paramount to Ten Mile Crossing, and the $99 diagnostic is the same number a Boise homeowner pays.

Why does my Meridian dishwasher leave white film when it worked fine last year?

Meridian well water is very hard, and the usual story is a softener that ran out of salt or stopped regenerating. Within a few weeks the heating element, spray arms and filter pick up a coat of scale and glasses turn chalky. We clear the scale, test the heater with a meter, and tell you if anything needs replacing. Then keep the softener fed.

My Meridian subdivision was built all at once. Will you have the part on the truck?

Often, yes. Builder packages in Paramount, Bridgetower, Lochsa Falls and Tuscany repeat the same models across whole streets, so we stock the truck for the failures those models actually have. If a part has to be ordered, we come back to finish with no second trip fee, and the written price does not change.

Do you serve Meridian rentals and new-build warranty homes?

Yes to rentals: tenant gets the visit, owner gets the written quote by text and the written invoice and warranty afterward. For a home still under a builder or manufacturer warranty, we are happy to diagnose for $99 and give you the failed part in writing so you can take it to whoever holds the warranty, or we can repair it ourselves if you would rather not wait.
