The route

Working Star

Star is where State Street stops being a city road. We leave the shop on Eagle Rd, run north through Meridian to SH-44, turn west through Eagle and keep going until the subdivisions give way to pasture and then start again. Star’s newer neighborhoods sit north and south of the highway near the town center, and the acreage stretches out toward the Boise River bottoms and up toward the foothills. Middleton is the next stop down the road. It is a little farther than our in-town areas but well inside the circle we serve, with no distance surcharge, and the drive along the river is one of the better ones in the valley.

Star has two kinds of houses and one kind of water. The subdivisions built from the 2000s to today came with builder-grade appliance packages, and the acreage homes range from 1970s farmhouses to new custom builds with big kitchens and a second freezer in the shop. Nearly all of it is on private wells or small community systems, and the water is very hard with iron in it. That means scale in every fill valve and heating element, orange staining where the iron gets through, and softeners working overtime. Add Owyhee wind blowing dust off the fields into dryer vents and condenser coils, and you have the Star repair list.

What Star calls about

ApplianceWhat we see most here
RefrigeratorsShop and garage freezers on acreage that stall in a January inversion or overheat behind dust-felted coils; a French-door in a 2010s subdivision with a failed evaporator fan.
DryersVents full of field dust and lint in the new subdivisions off SH-44; gas igniters failing in acreage laundry rooms; long runs in big garages.
WashersFront-loaders on well water with inlet screens rusted orange and scaled shut; a slow fill that ends in a supply code.
DishwashersThe Star signature: white film and orange tint on glasses when the softener runs out, a heating element under scale, a spray arm plugged.
Ranges & ovensBuilder-grade GE and Frigidaire electric ranges from the 2010s losing an element; propane and natural-gas ranges on acreage with weak igniters.
Ice makersFill valves choked by iron and scale, small cloudy cubes, ice that tastes of the well, a fill tube frozen solid.
Dishwasher

Dishwasher · new subdivision off SH-44

A 2016 house south of the highway, Samsung dishwasher, glasses coming out cloudy with an orange cast. The softener bin in the garage is empty. The element reads fine but wears scale; the spray arm is half plugged. We descale, clear the arm, and show the owner exactly what raw well water left behind.

Fridge

Fridge · acreage north of town

A chest freezer in a shop building on five acres, found thawed after a week of single-digit nights. The thermostat reads the cold shop as satisfied and stops calling the compressor. We meter it, fit a garage kit the model supports, and the owner gets a freezer that runs through the winter.

Washer

Washer · Star town center

A front-load LG a few streets from the town center fills for half the morning and throws a supply code. Both inlet screens rusted orange and the hot valve stuck. New valve, cleaned screens, fill timed against spec, and a plain talk about softener salt. The written price was the whole price.

Dryer

Dryer · subdivision west of Star Rd

A gas Whirlpool in a big three-car garage, vent running along the ceiling to the far wall. No heat. The igniter glows but the flame never holds; the coils on the gas valve read open. We replace the coils from the truck, clear the vent of field dust, and the owner watches the flame hold on the first cycle.

Star dryers breathe field dust. The Owyhee wind carries it across SH-44 and into every vent hood, and a garage dryer in a new subdivision packs its run with lint and grit faster than the same machine would in town. Add a gas igniter or a set of valve coils that gave out and you have a cold drum. We meter the heat circuit, read airflow at the hood, and write one number with the $99 diagnosis already inside it.

What you noticeWhat it usually isWhat we do
Drum spins, no warmthGas valve coils open, igniter failed, or a thermal fuse tripped behind a dusty ventMeter coils, igniter and fuse, replace, clear the vent so the fuse holds
Long dry times, hot cabinetVent choked with dust and lint, airflow at the hood weakClear the run, replace crushed flex, confirm flow at the exit
Stops and restarts, or will not startDoor switch, start switch or a motor that trips its overloadMeter the switches and motor, replace the failed one, run a full cycle
How often should a Star dryer vent be cleared with all the field dust?

More often than in town. We check flow at the hood on every dryer visit and tell you what we found. A garage dryer in a Star subdivision with a long run along the ceiling can choke in a couple of seasons. If the run is restricted past the section we can reach, we say so before you decide.

Washer repair in Star

$99 diagnostic, inside the repair you approve · all pricing after the diagnostic, in writing

A Star washer that fills slowly, throws a supply code, or leaves orange marks on white laundry is telling you about the well. Iron and scale close the inlet screens and stick the valve; a softener out of salt makes it worse fast. Beyond the water, drain pumps jam and front-loader door locks fail like anywhere. We meter the valve, pump and lock, and quote one written price. $99 for the diagnosis, inside the repair if you approve.

What you noticeWhat it usually isWhat we do
Slow fill, supply errorInlet screens rusted and scaled, valve stickingClean or replace screens, new valve, time the fill
Orange or gray marks on whitesIron getting past the softener, or a rusted screen sheddingCheck screens and hoses, replace, advise on softener status plainly
Will not drain or spinDrain pump jammed, or a door lock the board rejectsClear or replace the pump, meter the lock, run to the end of a spin
Will a new inlet valve on my Star washer last on well water?

It lasts far longer on softened water than raw. Star wells are hard enough with iron that an unsoftened valve can narrow again in a few years. We replace the valve, clean the screens, and tell you plainly whether the water we drained looked softened. The repair carries a written warranty either way.

Refrigerator and freezer repair in Star

$99 diagnostic, inside the repair you approve · all pricing after the diagnostic, in writing

Star keeps a lot of refrigerators and freezers in shops, barns and three-car garages, and those buildings swing from single digits in January to over a hundred in August. A unit that thaws in the cold or quits in the heat is the most common Star call, right after the warm kitchen fridge that gets a same-day window. We meter the thermostat, compressor and fans, clean dust from the coils, and hand you one written number with $99 inside it.

What you noticeWhat it usually isWhat we do
Shop freezer thawed in winterBuilding dropped below the thermostat’s range, unit stopped runningMeter the thermostat, fit a garage kit where possible, or advise a heated spot
Garage fridge warm in August, running nonstopCondenser coils felted with field dust, fan strugglingClean coils, meter compressor amps and fan, verify the pull-down
Kitchen French-door warm on top, freezer fineEvaporator fan failed or the damper stuck closedMeter the fan and damper, replace, verify airflow to the fresh-food side
Can a freezer in an unheated Star shop be made to run through winter?

Sometimes. Many models accept a heater kit that warms the thermostat area so the unit keeps cycling below forty degrees. Others cannot be made to, and the only fix is a heated space. We meter the thermostat and tell you which kind you have before quoting anything.

Stove, range and oven repair in Star

Star ranges split between the builder-grade electric sets in the subdivisions and gas or propane ranges out on the acreage. The electric ones lose a bake element or a glass-top zone; the gas ones develop igniters that click without lighting or ovens that take half an hour to preheat. We meter the element, igniter and sensor, name the part, and write one number. The $99 diagnosis is folded into the repair you approve, or stands alone if you decline.

What you noticeWhat it usually isWhat we do
Oven takes forever to preheatWeak bake igniter on gas, or a bake element with a break on electricRead igniter amps or element continuity, replace, time the preheat
Glass-top zone deadRadiant element or limiter switch failedMeter both, replace, confirm every zone heats
Gas burner lights, then goes outClogged port, a flame sensor issue on some models, or a regulator problemClean ports, test the burner at all settings, check supply pressure
Do you work on propane ranges on acreage outside Star?

Yes. Propane ranges use the same igniters, valves and sensors as natural-gas models with a different orifice and regulator setting. We meter the same way. If a range was converted from natural gas and the flame is wrong, we tell you what we see, and any repair is written before it starts.

Dishwasher repair in Star

$99 diagnostic, inside the repair you approve · all pricing after the diagnostic, in writing

The Star dishwasher is the canary for the softener. When the salt runs out, the next few loads come out cloudy with an orange cast, and within a season the heating element and spray arm wear a coat of scale. Add a drain pump that clogs or a latch that stops registering and the cycle quits early. We meter the element, check the drain and inlet, descale what we can and replace what we cannot. One written price, the $99 inside it.

What you noticeWhat it usually isWhat we do
Cloudy or orange-tinted glassesSoftener out of salt, raw well water scaling the element and armDescale or replace the element, clear the arm, show you the scale
Quits early, water in the bottomDrain pump clogged or the check valve stuckClear the pump and valve, run a drain cycle, confirm empty
Will not fillInlet valve narrowed by scale and iron, or a float stuckReplace the valve, free the float, verify the fill level
Do you service the water softener that feeds my Star dishwasher?

No. We repair the six machines, and softeners are not among them. But the dishwasher shows what the softener is doing, and we will tell you plainly whether the scale inside looks like softened or raw water. That tells you whether to call a softener company or just buy salt.

Ice maker repair in Star

$99 diagnostic, inside the repair you approve · all pricing after the diagnostic, in writing

Ice makers in Star have the hardest job in the valley. The fill valve is a pinhole, and well water with iron and scale closes it a little with every fill until the cubes come out hollow, then cloudy, then not at all. A fill tube freezes after a dripping valve; ice picks up the taste of the well. We meter the valve and module, thaw the fill path, and write one number. $99 for the diagnosis, included if you approve.

What you noticeWhat it usually isWhat we do
Ice stopped, module silentFill valve coil open or module failedMeter both, replace, watch a fill-and-harvest
Cubes hollow and smallValve throttled by scale and ironReplace the valve, check pressure, measure the fill
Ice tastes like the wellFilter spent, scale in the line, iron in the waterNew filter, line flushed, first few batches thrown out
Why does my Star ice maker fail every few years?

Water. A refrigerator ice maker meters water through a very small valve, and Star well water leaves iron and scale in it with every fill. Softened water slows the process a great deal. We replace the valve, measure the fill, and tell you plainly what the water looked like inside the old one.

Star questions

Does well water in Star really wear appliances faster?

Yes, and it is the first thing we look for. Star wells run very hard, often with iron. Scale narrows inlet valves and ice-maker fill valves and coats dishwasher elements; iron stains the screens orange and taints ice. A working softener slows all of it. When the softener runs dry, the dishwasher tells you within a few weeks.

Is Star too far out for same-day refrigerator service?

No. Star is inside our regular area with no distance surcharge, and a warm refrigerator gets a same-day window whenever the schedule allows, out SH-44 like any other call. We ask you to move what you can to a cooler or a neighbor’s freezer and we get there with the truck stocked for the common failures.

Can you fix the ice maker in my Star fridge, or does the well water mean it will just fail again?

We fix it, and we tell you what to expect. A new fill valve restores full cubes. On raw well water it will scale again over years; on softened water it lasts much longer. A fresh filter helps the taste. We do not service softeners, but we will show you the scale so you can decide.

What does the $99 cover on a Star repair visit?

A real diagnosis with a meter, the failed part named in plain words, and one written number for the repair. If you approve, the $99 is inside that number. If you decline, $99 is the whole bill. There is no travel charge for Star, and no repair price is quoted before the diagnostic.
