The route

Working Northwest Boise

Northwest Boise starts where State Street leaves the older streets around downtown and keeps going until the foothills stop it. From our shop we run north up Eagle Rd to State Street and roll east past Glenwood toward Veterans Memorial Park, then peel off into Collister, climb Hill Rd along the base of the foothills, or follow Pierce Park Ln toward the bench above. Hidden Springs sits farther out, up the draw past Seaman’s Gulch, and Bogus Basin Rd marks the eastern edge where the lots get bigger and the driveways longer. It is a mid-length run from the shop, but the truck is out this way most days for Eagle and Garden City anyway, and a call from Hidden Springs slots in beside one from Collister without any distance surcharge.

The housing runs in layers. Collister and the streets off State are 1950s and 1960s ranches with the laundry in a back hall or the garage. Hill Rd and Pierce Park added 1980s and 1990s two-stories with upstairs laundry and long vent runs down through the wall. Hidden Springs is a planned community from the late 1990s onward with larger kitchens and a heavier share of Sub-Zero, Wolf, Thermador and Miele. Water is the constant: city water along State is hard, and Hidden Springs draws from its own community wells, which run harder still. Scale in ice-maker fill valves, dishwasher elements coated white, washer inlet screens half blocked, and garage refrigerators that quit in a January inversion are the bulk of what we see.

What Northwest Boise calls about

ApplianceWhat we see most here
RefrigeratorsBuilt-in Sub-Zeros in Hidden Springs with condenser coils packed with foothill dust; garage units off Hill Rd that stop cycling when the garage drops into the thirties.
DryersSecond-floor dryers on Pierce Park with vents running twenty feet through the wall, lint-packed and airflow-starved; a thermal fuse that opens because the vent choked.
WashersFront-loaders in 1990s Hill Rd two-stories with inlet screens scaled shut so a fill takes forever; a drain pump jammed with a sock or a hair tie.
DishwashersWhite film on glassware in Collister and Hidden Springs, a heating element crusted with scale, a spray arm with half its holes plugged.
Ranges & ovensWolf and Thermador igniters that click but never light, GE glass-tops with a dead element, wall ovens in Hidden Springs whose bake element opened mid-roast.
Ice makersFill valves narrowed by community-well scale, fill tubes frozen solid, hollow undersized cubes that mean the water is arriving too slowly.
Dishwasher

Dishwasher · Collister

A 1960s ranch off Collister Drive, a KitchenAid under the counter that leaves every glass cloudy and quits halfway through the cycle. The meter shows the heating element open, and the element itself wears a quarter inch of scale. We fit the new element, descale the spray arm, and run a full cycle before writing the warranty.

Fridge

Fridge · Hidden Springs

A built-in Sub-Zero warming to fifty on a Sunday night, the owners home Monday morning. Condenser coils behind the top grille packed with dust off the foothills, fans straining. We clean the coils, meter the compressor amps, and the box is at thirty-seven before we finish the paperwork.

Dryer

Dryer · Pierce Park

Upstairs laundry, vent running down through an interior wall and out under the eave. The gas dryer starts, tumbles, and never warms. Thermal fuse open, and the vent behind it packed tight. We replace the fuse, clear the run, and show the homeowner the airflow reading at the outside hood.

Washer

Washer · Hill Rd

A front-load Whirlpool on Hill Rd taking most of an hour to fill and throwing a water-supply code. Both inlet screens scaled nearly shut and the hot-side valve sticking. New inlet valve from the truck, screens cleaned, cycle timed. The written number covered the whole thing, the $99 inside it.

Dryer repair in Northwest Boise

$99 diagnostic, inside the repair you approve · all pricing after the diagnostic, in writing

A dryer on Pierce Park or Hill Rd that tumbles cold, or needs two cycles for one load of towels, is almost always fighting its own vent. Those 1980s and 1990s two-stories route the exhaust down through a wall and out under an eave, and twenty feet of duct fills with lint and foothill dust. We meter the heating circuit, check airflow at the hood, and quote in writing. The $99 diagnostic is inside that number if you approve; say no and $99 is the entire bill.

What you noticeWhat it usually isWhat we do
Runs, tumbles, no heatThermal fuse opened after the vent choked, or a failed igniter on gasMeter the fuse and igniter, replace from the truck, clear the vent so it does not repeat
Towels still damp after a full cycleAirflow starved by a lint-packed run or a crushed transition hoseRead airflow at the outside hood, open the run, replace the crushed section
Squeal or thump from the drumWorn rear bearing, glazed rollers or a cracked idler pulleyPull the drum, replace rollers, belt and idler as a set, spin-test before closing
Do Northwest Boise dryers need the vent cleaned as part of a repair?

Often, yes. A no-heat call on Hill Rd is usually a thermal fuse, and the fuse opened because the vent was blocked. Replacing the fuse without clearing the run buys you a few months. We check airflow at the hood and clear the section behind the dryer as part of the visit, and tell you if the rest of the run needs attention.

Washer repair in Northwest Boise

$99 diagnostic, inside the repair you approve · all pricing after the diagnostic, in writing

Northwest Boise washers fill slow, drain slow, or stop mid-cycle with a code, and the community-well water in Hidden Springs and the hard city water along State Street are behind more of it than people expect. Scale narrows the inlet valve and blocks the screens; a pump gets a hair tie in it; a door lock on a front-loader gives up. We meter the valve and pump, name the part, and write one number. $99 for the diagnosis, folded into the repair if you go ahead.

What you noticeWhat it usually isWhat we do
Fills at a trickle, then errors outInlet screens and valve narrowed by scaleClean or replace the screens, replace the valve, time the fill against spec
Water left in the drum, will not spinDrain pump jammed or worn, or a lid lock the board cannot seeClear or replace the pump, test the lock switch with a meter, run a drain-and-spin
Leak on the floor during rinseSplit hose, cracked tub gasket or a boot on a front-loader holding gritPressure-check hoses, replace gasket or boot, run a full cycle on a dry floor
Should a Hidden Springs washer on well water have a softener ahead of it?

A softener helps every water-using appliance in Hidden Springs, and the washer is one of them. Without it, the inlet valve and screens collect scale and the fill slows year by year. We do not install softeners, but we will tell you plainly whether scale is what we found inside your valve so you can decide.

Refrigerator and freezer repair in Northwest Boise

$99 diagnostic, inside the repair you approve · all pricing after the diagnostic, in writing

A warm refrigerator gets a same-day window in Northwest Boise, whether it is a built-in Sub-Zero in Hidden Springs or a Kenmore in a Collister garage. Dust off the foothills packs condenser coils, a defrost heater fails and the evaporator ices into a block, a garage unit stops cycling in a January inversion. We meter the compressor, the defrost circuit and the thermostat, and give you one written price with the $99 diagnostic inside it. Decline, and $99 is all you owe.

What you noticeWhat it usually isWhat we do
Fridge warm, freezer still frozenEvaporator iced over from a failed defrost heater or thermostat, or a dead evaporator fanMeter the defrost circuit, replace the failed part, clear the ice, verify airflow to the fresh-food side
Compressor clicks and will not startStart relay or capacitor failed, sometimes a compressor drawing locked-rotor ampsMeter the start components and compressor windings, replace the relay, report amps in writing
Garage freezer thawed in the coldCabinet dropped below the thermostat’s range and stopped calling for coolingMeter the thermostat, fit a garage kit where the model allows, or advise moving it indoors for winter
Can you work on the Sub-Zero and Wolf units common in Hidden Springs?

Yes. Hidden Springs has a heavy share of built-in Sub-Zero, Wolf, Thermador, Miele and Viking, and we repair them. The diagnosis runs the same way, with a meter at the door and the failed part named plainly. Some built-in parts have to be ordered, which means a return visit with no second trip fee.

Stove, range and oven repair in Northwest Boise

$99 diagnostic, inside the repair you approve · all pricing after the diagnostic, in writing

Ranges and ovens in Northwest Boise divide by street: gas Wolf and Thermador in Hidden Springs and the newer Hill Rd homes, electric coil and glass-top GE and Whirlpool in the Collister ranches. The complaint is the same either way, a burner that clicks and never lights, an oven that stalls at 250, a bake element that snapped mid-roast. We test the igniter, element and sensor with a meter, and write one number. The $99 diagnostic lives inside the price you approve.

What you noticeWhat it usually isWhat we do
Igniter clicks, no flameCracked igniter, wet spark module after a boil-over, or a clogged burner portMeter the igniter, dry and test the module, clear ports, light-test every burner
Oven never reaches set temperatureWeak bake igniter drawing low amps on gas, or an open element on electricRead igniter amps or element continuity, replace, verify temperature with a probe
Glass-top with one dead zoneFailed radiant element or a limiter switch that openedMeter the element and limiter, replace, confirm all zones heat evenly
Do you repair Wolf and Thermador ranges in Northwest Boise?

We do. Hidden Springs and the larger lots near Bogus Basin Rd have a lot of them, and igniters and spark modules are the usual calls. We service and repair these lines with the same meter-first diagnosis as any other range. The diagnostic is $99 and the price is written before any panel comes off.

Dishwasher repair in Northwest Boise

$99 diagnostic, inside the repair you approve · all pricing after the diagnostic, in writing

Northwest Boise dishwashers wear the water. Community wells in Hidden Springs and hard city water along State Street leave scale on the heating element, plug spray-arm holes and gum up the float. The result is cloudy glasses, a cycle that stops early, or water standing in the sump. We meter the element, check the drain and inlet, descale what can be saved and replace what cannot. One written number, $99 diagnostic included in it if you approve.

What you noticeWhat it usually isWhat we do
Glasses come out cloudyScaled element and spray arm cutting heat and water pressureDescale or replace the element, clear the spray arm, run a hot cycle and check the glass
Water pooled in the bottomDrain pump clogged, check valve stuck or an air gap pluggedClear the pump and check valve, test the drain path, run a drain cycle to the floor drain
Stops mid-cycle, lights blinkDoor latch not registering, or a control board faultMeter the latch switch, replace latch or board, run a full cycle to completion
How can I tell if my Hidden Springs softener is why the dishwasher went bad?

The dishwasher tells on the softener first. If glasses that were clear a month ago are suddenly filmed, check the salt bin. An empty bin means the dishwasher has been taking raw well water. We do not service softeners, but we will show you the scale inside the machine so you know what changed.

Ice maker repair in Northwest Boise

$99 diagnostic, inside the repair you approve · all pricing after the diagnostic, in writing

An ice maker in Northwest Boise that goes silent, or drops small cloudy cubes, is usually being starved of water by scale. Hidden Springs well water is the worst offender, but city water along State Street does the same thing over more years. Fill valves narrow, fill tubes freeze, the module itself wears out. We meter the valve, thaw and inspect the fill tube, and give you one written price. The $99 diagnostic is inside it, or the whole bill if you decline.

What you noticeWhat it usually isWhat we do
No ice at all, no soundFill valve not opening, or the module has failedMeter the valve coil and module, replace, watch a full fill-and-harvest cycle
Cubes small and hollowFill valve narrowed by scale, water arriving too slowlyReplace the valve, check inlet pressure, measure the fill volume
Ice tastes off or is cloudyOld filter, or scale in the fill lineReplace the filter, flush the line, dump the first batches
Why does the ice maker in my Hidden Springs fridge fail more often than the one in my old Collister house?

Water hardness. Hidden Springs draws from community wells that run harder than Boise city water, so the tiny fill valve in an ice maker scales sooner. A working softener slows it down considerably. Once a valve is narrowed there is no cleaning it; we replace it and measure the fill volume so the cubes come back full.

Northwest Boise questions

Do you come out to Hidden Springs, or is that outside your area?

Hidden Springs is inside the area, no surcharge. It is up the draw from State Street and we are there often, especially for built-in refrigerators and higher-end ranges. The community-well water is harder than Boise city water, so ice makers and dishwashers out there see us a little sooner than the ones down on Collister.

Why does my Northwest Boise dishwasher leave white film when the neighbors have none?

Usually it comes down to softener. If a neighbor has a softener keeping salt and yours ran out or was never installed, your machine takes the full hardness of the water. The white film is scale, and once it is on the element and spray arm the cleaning drops off. We check the element with a meter and descale or replace as needed.

My garage fridge on Hill Rd stopped running in January. Is it dead?

Probably not. When an unheated garage falls below about forty degrees, a single-thermostat refrigerator reads the box as cold enough and stops calling for the compressor. The freezer side then thaws. Some units need a heater kit, some just need to live indoors in winter. We meter the thermostat and tell you which.

How does the $99 work if the repair on my Northwest Boise range turns out to be big?

The same as a small one. You pay $99 for the diagnosis with a meter, we name the failed part in plain words, and you get one written number. If you approve, the $99 is already inside that number. If you decline, $99 is the whole bill and you keep the diagnosis. All pricing comes after the diagnostic, in writing.
